Like any story, this one also has a beginning. No, it is not In the beginning of the Genesis of the Bible, it is much closer to our time, but it is a beginning that is needed to explain the Whens and the Whys of our own story. Before our heroes set out to conquer their own fears on the giant waves of a faraway river and exchange the lush green forests and cascading rivers of the Pacific Northwest with an equally beautiful but foreboding area of Eastern Europe, an explanation is in order. Dark forests over tall mountain ranges anywhere in the world carry a certain degree of mystery and superstition. Some more so, if their shadows cast over a long history of peoples, cultures, wars, and migrations over past centuries, up to times whose ugly reality even our own grandfathers shall surely recall.
